Joe Dirt Ride

Located near St. James, Missouri, this is a great gravel ride that starts at the Woodson K Woods parking lot just to the east of the Meramec Springs park entrance on HWY 8.

The route offers 100% gravel with tons of hills and low water bridge crossings. The 23.5 mile rugged dirt road ride offers over 1,800 ft. climbing and is best done on a mountain bike or 'cross bike with good tires. There are some water crossings during the wet season. Overall, you can expect to take about 2:15 to finish based on an average pace.

More information can be found on Route 66 Bicycles which is the originator of this gravel route.

This is still a fully legal route verified by Route 66 Bicycles in Rolla. The aforementioned landowner has a dispute with the county and their road and he does his best to make it look like a private road BUT it is a maintained county road.

not sure if this is still a viable route. the trail goes through several stretches of posted private property with cattle guards. there is plenty of gravel millage in this area without hitting the private sections

Great gravel ride but mind first landowner going cw about 1.5 mi. Road is a county road (public road -> verified!) but he harasses folks passing through. Even has 'do not enter' sign but it is legal. Otherwise, loop is amazing.

Amazing conditions on the gravel route. Generally no loose resurfacing gravel and some great hardpack sections. Worth the trip only one hour SW from STL county. Double it up if you need to justify the gas expense.
