Greensfelder County Park

In April 2004 GORC rerouted a large portion of trail at Greensfelder. The trail was severely eroded and below ground level because of poorly designed trail and people using the trail when it was far too wet. This reroute is entirely new singletrack and for the most part it parallels the road from the cell tower down to the road crossing to get to DeClue.

In October 2005, GORC began Part II of its Dogwood section reroute. A short, but steep and unsustainable section of trail was rerouted to increase the trail's length and to traverse the steep hillside in a manner that shouldn't cause further erosion issues.

The Dogwood reroute is complete and ready for use!

In 2007 GORC began the large DeClue extension project. This extension is almost entirely new singletrack.

In 2009 GORC began the large DeClue extension project. This extension is almost entirely new singletrack. When completed in late 2009 it will connect to the Greensfelder Scenic Loop road. Featuring sustainable grades and designed to withstand equestrian use the new trail will be a great new addition to Greensfelder County Park. Be sure to ride what we have completed to date to check it out for yourself and to help "pack" the soil. Look for more information in the future.

In 2010 GORC expanded the DeClue trail and completed it to the Scenic Loop road. While we didn't gather images for several workdays, here is a collection from our April 10th outing that armored wet sections and finished a .7 mile trail extension near the eastern edge of the park.

In 2011 GORC is rerouting both the Green Rock and Deer Run trail portions running from the Scenic Loop Road down into the valley where they meet the Eagle Valley trail. These two trails, both horrendously eroded and poorly built, are being merged until they reach the valley floor where they will both diverge again.

The spring workdays are focusing on routing a singletrack trail down the hillside and will use the hillside contours to 'naturally' direct the trail. A shallow gradient will be averaged all the way to the valley floor. This reroute will take trail users into parts of the park that may not have seen before. The final Deer Run / Green Rock trail will eliminate about .5 mile of eroded, unsustainable trail and replace it with about 1.5 miles of new trail - 2 miles of new trail in total.
